Happy Thanksgiving to our friends to the south. You know what that means? Tomorrow is Black Friday!
After all the speculation, the pre-Black Friday deals and the talk of who wants to buy what, let’s pull out the ol’ wallets and get the gifts rollin’ in. Harold made a short video to remind you event the event so check out what his furry face has to say.
Also, keep in mind that many Canadian stores and malls are open earlier than usual tomorrow, so check with your local retailers to see when they’re open and what kind of deals are available.
Black Friday doesn’t have to be all about gadgets. Reitmans Canada has announced their 4 day Black Friday sale and it is a good one.

Looking for a camera deal? Amazon may just be able to deliver. While the headline says that all camera’s are 40% off, that isn’t entirely true. If you’re in the market for a pro or ‘prosumer’ camera, it looks as thought you’re out of luck in today’s sale. However, for those of you who just need a simple point and shoot device to capture family moments or bleary bar nights with friends, there are some options. Most model’s are Cannon and you’ll have to do some research to ensure that the quality is up to par, but you should be able to nab a nice photo snapper for $100 – $150. (more…)
If you’re a parent of small children or have kids on your gift list, you should check out the Black Friday Sale at Sears Canada. In the past, the retail chain hasn’t participated in the November shopping event. This year they’ve jumped in head first with 25% off all toys. There doesn’t seem to be a limit to the offer, with everything from Lego, to dolls and large playsets included.
For girls, we spotted Collector Barbies for under $40, while Dora the Explorer play tents have been dropped down to just $16. If you have boys on the list, there is a full selection of Hot Wheels tracks priced between $20 and $40, so you should be able to find a good bargain. (more…)
The day is finally here. We’ve been talking about Amazon’s Black Friday week sales for over a month now and today marks day one of the event. Our team bounced over to the main sale page to take a look and see what kind of savings were to be had.
The top deal of the day is an eliptical trainer for 45% off. While that means you could save over $600, the deal seems a bit weak. Most people don’t think about getting in shape until after a holiday filled with buttery treats and turkey. Even with 45% off it’s still over $800 and that seems a bit steep for most frugal Canadian bargain hunters. (more…)
Black Friday is an American invention. In our previous post we wondered aloud whether or not Canadians are going to care about Black Friday. So far it’s hard to tell. This article indicates that Ottawa malls will be opening earlier and staying open later in a bid to compete with US stores, but it is unclear whether or not they’ll be able to go toe to toe on what matters: price. Commenter “Bob G” responded to the article with this:
These Ottawa malls will have to do alot more than extend hours to stop me from heading south to get some great deals. If they want my dollar, make it worth my while and give great prices…
While Black Friday is always a day off for a majority of our friends in America. It is just starting to gain momentum with Canadians. Many of us cross the border to try and cash in on Black Friday sales at big name US retailers.
Everyone loves a good discount, especially during the stressful holiday season. A Bank of Montreal study predicts as many as 1 in 5 Canadians will make the journey to America to try and take advantage of the savings on November 23rd.
With profits going south, more and more stores in Canada are attempting similar promotions to the American Black Friday. This year, for example, there will be extended hours for Black Friday sales at Toys’r'Us. Classic Canadian merchant the Bay has also announced a string of one day sales in conjunction with both Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales for deal savvy canucks. (more…)
